Orthodontics for Adults

Welcome to Biggs-Hansen Orthodontics in Indianapolis, IN, your family orthodontist!

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Today, orthodontic treatment is a viable option for almost any adult. It is well recognized that when left untreated, many orthodontic problems may become worse. When you have a malocclusion (“bad bite”), your teeth may be crowded, excessively spaced, or may not fit together correctly. Such conditions may lead to dental health problems. Crowded teeth are hard to clean and, given time, may contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss. Teeth that do not fit well often wear down more quickly-another reason to make sure that your teeth are in good alignment and well maintained in your adult years. We provide traditional braces, as well as Invisalign invisible braces for adults.

TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) Therapy

Our doctors provide diagnosis and treatment for patients who may have developed a temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and can assist in treatment of complex dysfunctions with conservative therapy. A TMJ consultation would be necessary, and the doctors would inform you regarding whether you are a candidate for conservative therapy that we offer in our practice.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Appliance Therapy

Our doctors have extensive background in the relationship between anatomical issues that contribute to both orthodontic and sleep apnea issues. We will coordinate efforts with pediatricians, sleep specialists, and sleep centers to discuss whether an appliance could facilitate and improve the patient’s orthodontic and/or obstructive sleep apnea disorder. A consultation with one of our doctors to discuss the possibilities and obtain proper diagnostic information would be necessary to determine if your child would be a candidate for an appliance to assist with their orthodontic issue and obstructive sleep apnea disorder.
